Meeting a Bear Two friends were out having a stroll in the forest enjoying the peace and the beauty around them. Words were few because they did not wish to disturb the peace. Suddenly, the peace was broken by the noise of a large animal coming towards them. As they watched the saw an extremely large bear heading towards them. One of the two men ran to a tree and climbed as high as he could, the other headed for a nearby cave. The bear was in no hurry to eat, so he sat down between the tree and the cave to reflect upon his good fortune. Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, the man in the cave came rushing out, almost ran into the waiting bear, hesitated, and then dashed back in again. The same thing happened a second time. When he emerged for the third time, his companion in the tree frantically called out, "Woody, are you crazy? Stay in the cave till he leaves!" "Can't," panted Woody, "there's another bear in there." The Obituary I frequently make a joke about not reading the obituaries. I tell my friends that I am afraid that one day I will look at them and see my own name there. I will be in a deep quandary wondering if I am here or there. In quiet moments, having made this comment, I find myself wondering what I might read there? Many years ago, this actually happened to a person. He saw his death wrongly in the local paper. He read further to ascertain what they had written of him. The obituary notice began, Dynamite King Dies.” He had been the inventor of dynamite in the western world. He asked himself if this was how he wanted to be remembered? The answer that came to him loud and clear was that this was not how he wanted to be remembered. From that very day onward, he began working wherever possible to make peace.
