Meeting a Bear

 

Two friends were out having a stroll in the forest enjoying the peace and the beauty around them. Words were few because they did not wish to disturb the peace.

 

Suddenly, the peace was broken by the noise of a large animal coming towards them. As they watched the saw an extremely large bear heading towards them. One of the two men ran to a tree and climbed as high as he could, the other headed for a nearby cave.

 

The bear was in no hurry to eat, so he sat down between the tree and the cave to reflect upon his good fortune. Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, the man in the cave came rushing out, almost ran into the waiting bear, hesitated, and then dashed back in again. The same thing happened a second time. 

 

When he emerged for the third time, his companion in the tree frantically called out, "Woody, are you crazy? Stay in the cave till he leaves!" "Can't," panted Woody, "there's another bear in there."

 

Woody stopped and thought for a moment, then headed straight towards the waiting bear. The bear took a look at this man heading towards him and decided that in the face of such determination the better course was to move on.

 

There are times in life when things seem impossible. At such times the best procedure is to face our problems straight on. What seemed impossible or dreadful frequently is not as bad as it seemed.

1 Simple Things

Simple Things Hughie is in a terrible state and goes to see a private therapist, too terrified to go to a doctor in case they declare him mad. "So how can I help?" asks the therapist. "It's like this," says Hughie. "I’ve started getting these fears at night, and they are getting worse! I keep thinking somebody is under the bed, so I go down under it to look and no one's there. Then my brain tells me there's somebody on top of the bed and it goes on like this all night: under, top, under, top. It's driving me mental. I cannot get a moment's sleep!" The therapist thinks for a bit and says, "I am positive I can cure you of this. Now, I want you to come and see me twice a week for the next six months for a two-hour session each time."
